But switching your beloved caffeine hit for a brew made with green coffee beans may be worth doing.

A nutritionist claims enjoying the brew could help you lose weight – because it’s packed full of fat-fighting compounds.

In a piece for Healthista, Rick Hay delved into the science behind green coffee beans – and the evidence to prove it works.

He pointed to a study that found it helped patients lose three times more weight than a regular instant coffee.

Mr Hay said: ‘Green coffee bean extract is a natural stimulant that is less processed version of coffee and contains less caffeine than regular coffee.’
He added that coffee beans are ‘loaded’ with antioxidants and chlorogenic acid.
Chlorogenic acid is believed to be the principal ingredient in green coffee beans which produces weight loss effects, Mr Hay said.
A Norwegian study, published more than a decade ago, delved into the benefits of green coffee bean extract.

Thirty overweight individuals were followed over 12 weeks for the trial, published in The Journal of International Medical Research.
Half consumed regular coffee, the rest an instant coffee enriched with 200mg of green coffee bean extract.
Both groups were instructed not to change their diet or exercise habits by the team at Oslo’s ETC Research and Development.
The study found the group taking the instant coffee with green coffee bean extract lost 11lbs 14oz (5.4kg), on average.
This was three times more than the group who consumed plain instant coffee, who lost 3lbs 12 oz (1.7kg), on average.
As well as helping with weight loss, Mr Hay said green coffee bean extract can aid with energy production and blood circulation.
The nutritional director for Healthista also added it can boost the immune system because it’s packed with antioxidant polyphenols.
The recommended dosage is between 200-400mg of green coffee bean powder daily because of its caffeine content.
